The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) helps make healthcare affordable to families caring for children who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid, yet cannot afford to buy private insurance. Services can include:
- visits to healthcare providers
- inpatient and outpatient hospital services
- prescription medication and immunizations
- lab tests and x-rays
- surgery and transplants
- emergency care
- physical, speech, and occupational therapies
If your child or children get SCHIP benefits, you may need to pay a small enrollment fee for the program. Additionally, you may have to pay co-payments for visits to the healthcare provider, getting prescription drugs, or for emergency care.
