Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled Program (PAAD)

PAAD offers help paying for your prescriptions drugs by covering the monthly premiums for certain Medicare Part D plans. You pay co-payments of $5 for each covered generic drug prescription and $7 for each brand-name drug prescription. In some cases, you may pay less for generic drugs if the prescription drug is less than the $5 PAAD co-payment.

How do I apply?

To apply, print and fill out the application and mail it according to the directions on the form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible?

To get help from PAAD, you must be 65 years of age or older or 18 years of age or older and receive Social Security Disability benefits. You must also have limited income and cannot be enrolled in Medicaid.

What if you have Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage?

If you are eligible for Medicare, you must enroll in Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D) in order to get help from PAAD. The combination of the two programs will save you the most money on your prescription drugs. PAAD pays for certain Medicare part Part D premiums, deductibles, and any out-of-pocket costs to use the Medicare prescription drug benefit. In addition, PAAD will help you choose a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (though you may choose any Medicare Prescription Drug Plan offered in New Jersey). If you do not select a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan by a certain date, PAAD will help you enroll in one of its recommended plans. If PAAD enrolls you in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, you will be given a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) which will allow you to make one change to enroll in a different plan at any time through the end of the calendar year.
